Focusing in on Crisis Prevention

The Division of Mental Health Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services recently released a revised Comprehensive Crisis Prevention and Intervention Plan in an attempt to help people better prepare for and prevent behavioral health crisis.

When crisis happens in people’s lives and they are unprepared, that crisis often times is very disruptive to a person’s recovery. Effective Comprehensive Crisis Prevention and Intervention Plans are tools that help individuals avoid unnecessary visits to emergency rooms and inpatient hospital stays. The revised Comprehensive Crisis Prevention and Intervention Plan outlines the steps to prevent a crisis from occurring and helps you think about how to prevent a minor crisis from turning into a catastrophe.
